Obituary of Paul Stephan Ormos

On Thursday, June 8th, Paul Ormos passed away at the ripe age of 90. Notice we didn't say "old" because although advanced in years, he remained young at heart. Born in Baia Mare Romania in 1927, Dad was one of the few of our family that was able to escape both the Nazis and the communists making his way to Canada. Like so many other refugees of WWII he arrived in the country with nothing. He worked hard, forged good relationships and established himself as a business man and a friend to many. Dad always had a smile on his face and a joke to greet everyone with. He loved long and hard, having been married three times. His kids, of which there were six, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren, brought him tremendous pride and joy. (We know this because he told us so often.) Dad's health had declined in recent months. His wife Pat's passing last year took some of the wind out of his sails. But he continued to do the things he enjoyed most; cruising in the Caribbean, enjoying a good steak, and watching Jeopardy. In essence, he lived a good life. Dad went exactly as he wanted to. Quickly, but peacefully. We are confident in the knowledge that he is at rest and in all likelihood regaling Mickey, David and Pat with a joke that starts "Have I got a deal for you!" In accordance with his wishes, there will be a private celebration of life but no funeral. Donations in Paul’s memory can be made to the Montreal Holocaust Museum or Bethell House Hospice Arrangements entrusted to In Memoriam Funeral Services Inc.
