Obituary of Gerard Chicoine

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerard Chicoine on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the age of 80. Gerard was born in Sudbury and grew up in Schreiber. Through the years he lived in Windsor, Rossland, and most recently in Kitchener. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, as well as playing guitar, golfing and bowling. Gerard, his father and brother built The Big C Motel, a predominant fixture for many years along the Trans-Canada highway on the edge of Schreiber in Northern Ontario. As a young man, he worked at Kimberly-Clark in Terrace Bay, and then at Ford in Windsor. Gerard is survived by his daughter Rhonda (Karl) De Forest, son Daniel Chicoine, daughter Melinda Scott, grandchildren Chance, Ty, Korian, Erikson, Kyana, Mikaya, great-grandchildren Chance Jr., Kodah, Amelia, brothers Ed, Rick (Maggie), Ron (Christiane), sisters Paulette (Leighton) Roslyn, Lucette (Leo) Pelland, Suzanne (Eric Acker) Chicoine, Estelle Morrill, Gaetane, former wife Donna Chicoine, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, San and Lucy Chicoine, daughter Sandra Deseron, brother Peter, sister Gisele, and partner Shirley Rathwell. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Gerard’s life will take place at a later date. As a gesture of sympathy, donations may be made to Canadian Red Cross. In Memoriam Funeral Services Inc. has been given the honour to serve the Chicoine Family.
