Francis Basil "Bas" Horan

January 6, 1947 - March 25, 2024

Francis Basil "Bas" Horan, 77, of Mono, passed away on Monday, March 25th peacefully with his family by his side.

Bas was born on January 6, 1947, to William Basil Horan and Mary Agnes Krauskopf at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.

“Little Basil” grew up on a humble farm in Alton. He was the second oldest brother of eleven children: Michael, Basil, Joan, Linda, Theresa, Barbara, Patricia, Rosalie, Frances, Gregory, and Anne Marie.

After he graduated from high school, he went on to study art and architecture at university. Bas soon put school aside and stepped out onto the open road. He saved up his money and backpacked across most of Europe on his motorcycle. Upon returning, he worked as a portrait photographer, travelling much of Canada.

In 1972, Bas met Valerie “Val” Jane Teeter of Orangeville. They were married in May 1973, and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2023. Bas had four children: Angela, Bradley, Jennifer, and Kyle; three in-laws: Geof, Jason, and Cassandra; and three grandchildren: Brianna, Jessica, and Raven.

Under the tutelage of his father-in-law, William “Bill” Teeter, he worked for Orangeville Insurance and eventually became a partner and co-owner. Soon after selling his business, Bas and Val spent many years travelling and enjoying their retirement with their friends in the Watermark community.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Monora Park Pavilion, 500 Monora Park Road, Mono, ON, L9W 0E1 on Tuesday, April 16th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
