Obituary of Glen WRIGHT

Please share a memory of Glen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Glen passed away at his residence in Strathcona Village, Mount Forest, on August 10, 2023.

He was the son of Wilfred and Robena (MacPhail) Wright, a native of Motherwell, Scotland.

Glen was raised in the Hopeville area.

He celebrated his ninetieth birthday August 2nd, and received congratulatory messages from 10 government dignitaries, phone calls and cards from friends and enjoyed a birthday luncheon.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret MacDougall Ferguson (1995) and his second wife Anna Jeanne Thomson Plantt (2015).

Glen worked as a natural gas pipeline operator and inspector, Texas headquarters and laboured in 28 states during his early career. He returned to Canada after the untimely death of his father of a heart attack at age 60, and farmed in the Swinton Park area for eight years. He and Margaret owned and operated the Wright Place in Hopeville, specializing in painting, decorating and giftware for many years. Glen and Anna moved to Wilno in the Barry’s Bay area in 2007 where they restored a scenic Renfrew county farm to its original grandeur. He retired to Strathcona Village, Mount Forest in 2015. Glen was a member of St. Mary of the Purification Roman Catholic church, Mount Forest, and a Third Decree Knights of Columbus in Wilno. He was perhaps best known as a Scottish Entertainer, Gospel and Country soloist. He could remember the words of scores of songs and had a fantastic knowledge of local history. He was a member of the Dromore Country Gentleman, the Gospel Couriers, and sang in several choirs.
