Obituary of William Edmund McCREA

November 6, 1928 - June 1, 2021 McCREA, William “Bill” Edmund, born November 6, 1928 in Prince Albert, ON, the 8th child born to Hattie Mae Hazelton and Edmund McCrea. Bill passed away peacefully in the home he built in 1989. He leaves Fay, his wife of 60 years. His loving children: Lisa, Steve (Daniela) and his two precious grandsons, Gaelan and Benjamin. He fought a valiant 5 month battle with cancer. Predeceased by Gerald (Ruth) and son Gary, Robina (Bill), Norman (Jean), Margaret (Bill), Mary (Ben), Hazel (Bill) and son David, Viola (Bob) Miller and sister-in- law Margaret Boon and her son, Todd. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as many long-time friends. Bill retired from the millwright shop at Air Canada in 1987 after 30 years of service and his retirement project was building a new home in Caledon. His motto was “use it up, wear it out and make it do” so he followed it and never threw anything away that he could repair and there was nothing he could not repair: hence his Grandma McCrea lovingly referred to him as her “Little Mr. Fixit”. She also taught him to knit and darn socks. His hobby was machinery, and he could create parts on his lathe that were no longer manufactured or available, for both Air Canada and friends. He always said that he got along better with machinery than people. Bill enjoyed seeing so many friends and family members who came to pay tribute to him on the occasion of his 90th birthday in November 2018. Everyone saw Bill as a kind, gentle and honest man. Some even said he was so honest he squeaked. Our thanks go to LIHN and their team of PSWs, Angel Annie for her kindness and patience, closing the Gap for their supply of PSWs that enabled him to stay in his own home. Due to Covid, a Celebration of Life will be held as soon as restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations in memory of Bill would be gratefully accepted by Caledon East United Church, 6046 Old Church Road, Caledon East, ON L7C 1H8 OR Knox United Church, 2976 Charleston Sideroad, Caledon Village, ON L7K 0V8, where Bill served on the board, sang in the choir and helped out wherever he could.
