Marie WILLAN

Obituary of Marie Cleffier WILLAN

Jan 24, 1914 – June 23, 2020 Marie passed away peacefully at the Headwaters Health Care Hospital at the amazing age of 106 and a half. Marie was married to Graham for 50 years, 1941 – 1991. She was a loved mother to Russell (predeceased) and to Linda (Stewart – predeceased) and Wendy (Tim). She was also a loved Nannee to Michael (pre-deceased), Matthew (Amaya), Bryan and Zeena. She recently enjoyed meeting her new great grandson Adrian. Marie was born in Dwight near Huntsville in 1914. She was a country girl who loved anything to do with nature. In her 106 years of life, she had seen many changes in the world. She was an individual who could embrace change and make the best of a situation. She had many interesting stories to tell of how things were in times past. Her self determination and positive attitude were a good example of how to live life well. Marie knew how to live life simply, how to be content and be appreciative for what she had been given. She managed to live in her ground floor apartment doing the things she loved (with some help from family and friends) right up until the last 3 months of her life. In many ways, she was amazing. She will be fondly remembered for her love of family, for her care and thoughtfulness towards her children, their spouses and her grandchildren. She had a giving nature to do things for others. She loved to cook and bake for others. She loved her plants and flowers in her garden. She enjoyed arts and crafts and loved to sew and knit. Many gifts and donations of knitting went to others over the years. She also loved to do flower arranging and the tenants of her building enjoyed almost 30 years of Marie making seasonal arrangements for the front foyer of the apartment building. She loved her pet budgies and parrots and also her grandpuppies, who would come to visit. She was also quite a baseball, hockey, basketball and golf fan right into her 100's. Thanks Marie, Mom and Nannee for setting a good example to all of us who had the privilege of knowing and loving you, of how to live life well. The family would like to thank Dr. Singh, the nurses and staff of Headwaters Hospital E-Wing for their compassionate and supportive care towards our mother during her almost 3 month stay in hospital. She repeatedly said that she was being well taken care of, which as a family meant a lot to us since we couldn't visit her during covid, until she became palliative. We were so thankful we were able to spend that last week together. In Memoriam Funeral Services Inc. has been given the honour to serve the Willan Family.
